When should you go on a cheese diet?

A: When you need to cheddar a few pounds!

The common weight-loss advice has become “eat this, not that;” however there are some other weight loss tricks that don’t involve dieting.

1. Change Your Mindset

Positive thinking is something most people take for granted, not only when trying to lose weight, but life in general.

Every idea, goal, and great accomplishment first started as a thought, a thought in the mind of someone who believed he/she could make it a reality.

Most people approach weight loss with a pessimistic mindset, believing they have to give up their favorite foods, not go out to dinner with friends, no drinking, and doing exercises they don’t like.

Not only are these things about weight loss incorrect, but this kind of mindset is bound to lead you to failure even before starting.

In fact, there are several ways you can lose weight without exercising and keep your calories low when eating out.

Instead of focusing on the negative, focus on the positive things you’ll get out of starting your weight loss journey.

Focus on the health benefits you’ll get, you’ll be able to feel more energized, live longer, and prevent some diseases and injuries.

Focus on how weight loss is going to make you feel, it will make you feel confident and accomplished.

Picture yourself when you’ve finally reached your goal and how that is going to make you feel, gather and use the power of emotion to push you forward.

Where the mind goes, the body will follow.

Here are 6 mindsets to avoid if you want to lose weight.

2. What’s Your Why

What are the reasons behind wanting to lose weight?

Is it because you believe it’ll make you look better? Is it because you want to live a healthier life for your husband and kids? Are you looking to be an inspiration to those who want to achieve the same results as you?

Once you figure out your “why,” hold on to it, write it down on paper and read it out loud every morning upon waking and before retiring at night.

This will be of great help especially on days when you feel like quitting.

3. Get More Sleep

Research (1, 2) has shown that there’s a relationship between obesity and lack of sleep.

This might be because sleep deprivation can lead to hormonal alterations that may favor an increase in food consumption and lead to weight gain.

It is recommended for adults to get between 7 to 8 hours of sleep per day. (3)

So consider crafting an effective night-time routine to help you achieve your weight loss goals.

4. Drink Water Before Your Meals

Studies (4) from the University of Birmingham have shown that drinking about 16 ounces of water 30 minutes before a meal can help with weight loss.

During the study, the people who drank about 16 ounces of water 30 minutes before their meal lost an average of 2.7 pounds more than those who didn’t during a period of 12 weeks.

This might be due to the sense of fullness that drinking water can provide, which decreases the chances of overeating.

Here’s an article about how drinking more water can help you lose weight.

5. Find Activities You Love

Another great weight loss trick that don’t involve dieting is to find hobbies you love that keep you active.

There’s no need to spend countless hours on the treadmill if you don’t like it.

You can try some of these activities:

  • Zumba
  • dance
  • aerobics
  • yoga
  • hot yoga
  • hiking
  • rollerblading
  • slacklining
  • cycling
  • weight lifting
  • CrossFit
  • tennis

If you want to achieve long-term results, you must find a dieting and exercise approach that you enjoy and see yourself doing for the rest of your life.

That’s why restrictive diets that don’t teach you the basics of nutrition tend to fail in the long-term.

I suggest you take a look at the 80/20 rule for weight loss.
